About Leiria

Leiria is located in the Centro Region and sub region of Pinhal Litoral, about halfway between Lisbon and Porto. The distance to Lisbon is 137 kilometres (85 miles), to Coimbra 70 kilometres (43 miles) and to Porto 177 kilometres (110 miles). The historic city centre spreads between the castle hill and the river Lis.

Leiria is also included in the Região de Leiria. As the main city in this community, the area of influence of Leiria spreads over the cities of Marinha Grande, Ourém, Fátima, Pombal as well the municipalities/town seats of Batalha and Porto de Mós located nearby.

May is still a great time to visit Centre of Portugal. The temperature is quite mild and is the most flowery season of the year, which is very pleasant for walks and hikes outdoors. You can enjoy the delicious food, taste the great wines, visit the religious area of Fatima, the area of Big Waves in Nazaré, the highest mountain range in Continental Portugal and make a pleasant visit to a splendid region with a great heritage buildings and History.

The conference will be held in a mix modality: in-person and on-line. We, do, appreciate your presence, but feel free to choose what is more advantageous for you, when registering here.

How to get Leiria

From Lisbon Airport

You may catch the metro subway at Lisbon Airport and go to Oriente railway and bus station or Sete Rios bus station (must to change line once). Either in Oriente or Sete Rios, take the bus (Express lines) to Leiria. The FlixBus is, also, a good option to consider.

If you are coming by car, configure the GPS to take the Highway A8 straight to Leiria. Along the way you can make a pause in Torres Vedras city, Óbidos city, and visit their beatiful monuments or, taste their fine food and exquisite desserts or, simply, go for a walk in their antique squares and fortresses.

From Oporto Airport

You may catch the metro subway at Porto Airport to Campo 24 de Agosto to take the bus (Express lines) to Leiria.

The FlixBus is, also, a good option to consider.

If you are coming by car, configure the GPS to take the Highway A1 to Leiria. You may take the A25 and make a pause in Aveiro, the “Portuguese Venice”, where you can taste the famous and delicious “ovos moles” egg cream, amoung other gastronomy, or take a boat trip, or simply go for a walk by the river.
